SUMMARY: Under the lead direction of the building principal, the Substitute Paraeducator will provide educational and clerical support services to one or more assigned certificated teachers and will work effectively with staff to provide the best possible learning environment for all students.
ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Be available for on-call duty
- Maintain effective communication with classroom teacher and program administrator
- Maintain professional conduct when working with students, staff, and parents
- Provide tutorial services to students individually or in small groups as assigned by the classroom teacher
- Assist teacher(s) with planning of special activities, lesson preparation/ implementation and general classroom duties
- Assist teacher(s) with classroom management to include discipline
- Assist with the supervision of students during building activities such as assemblies and other special programs
- Assist with the collection and maintenance of student attendance and lunch information as needed
- Participate in building activities as they relate to the sub position
- Perform other related work as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Current or recent experience working with Native Americans or other similar diverse populations
Knowledge of or experience with:
AVID, Responsive Classroom, Trauma-Informed Practices, Restorative Practices, Project GLAD, Project Based Learning
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
Successful criminal background clearance
Successful and/or clear drug screening
KNOWLEDGE OF:
School board policies and procedures
ABILITY TO:

Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Anything over the weight limits should be done as a two-person lift or with a mechanical lift.
