SUMMARY: The Paraeducator – Math Resource Support (SPED) assists with the delivery of instructional services in the special education program with an emphasis in math. Responsibilities vary with the individual assignment, but typically include instruction of students, monitor student behavior, student hygiene, and preparation of materials, testing, and data collection/reporting.
ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Instructs/tutors’ students individually or in a small group setting in resource as well as general education classes under the direction of certificated employee(s)
- Acts as an instructional resource for classroom teachers
- Assists in the evaluation of student needs and in preparation of appropriate lessons and materials in collaboration with certified personnel
- Helps prepare and assemble activities for students under the direction of certificated employee(s)
- Facilitates student involvement in school activities
- Assists and/or instructs students in computer usage and operation
- Maintains and/or assists with student discipline including maintenance of positive student behavior
- Develops and maintains student records, student progress reports, and other related documents
- Assists with the supervision of students during building activities, such as assemblies and special programs
- Assists students with building emergency drills
- May attend staff meetings and building events, such as open house
- May attend related professional development activities and workshops
- Maintains effective communication with classroom teachers and administrators
- Maintains professional conduct when working with students, staff and parents
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
- Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Be at least eighteen years of age
Possess a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent (GED) and
Two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter hours); or an Associate’s degree (or higher); or a passing score (461) on a state local Para assessment exam.
Proof of qualifications must be included in application.
Must complete the Para-educator Core Competencies within 75 days of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of traditional Native American cultures and values
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in any field
Recent previous para-educator experience

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for long periods of time. The employee must frequently reach with hands and arms and is regularly required to talk or hear; stand and/or walk; bend, stoop, twist, squat, and kneel; and use hands to finger, handle, feel and perform fine motor manipulation. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Anything over the weight limits should be done as a two-person lift or with a mechanical lift.
